Blessed Are We

We are thrilled to announce that Katie Lynn is going to be a big sister; Monica and I are expecting our second child! Monica’s due date is August 31, 2009.

Naturally, one of the questions that always comes to mind:

Was this planned?

The answer to that is no. The next declaration is usually:

Oh! So this was a surprise!

Well, no..

The best way to explain is to go back to 2005. After our niece Madison was born, Monica and I got bit hard by the baby bug. So we decided to start trying to conceive. Unfortunately, it did not happen for us and we were referred to a specialist. Monica was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (POCS) in October 2006. She took Clomid for a few cycles but to no avail. At that time, the specialist gave us the option of moving to the next level: injection shots leading to an IUI (Intrauterine Insemination).

Our first IUI was performed in March 2007 and was successful; Monica was pregnant with Katie Lynn. After Katie Lynn was born, Monica and I made the decision to not do anything to prevent future pregnancies given the difficulties we had encountered conceiving Katie Lynn.

Flash forward to August 2008. Monica, Katie Lynn, and I had just moved back to the Metroplex about a month prior. We believed Monica had actually cycled a few months back-to-back-to-back in August, September, and October. After the October cycle, we decided to actually “try”.. but several pregnancy tests taken the week of Thanksgiving all showed negative.

Disappointment set in, but given our history, we were not terribly depressed. We had to go the specialist route before, and we knew that we would more than likely need to go that route again. Monica made an apppointment with a specialist for January 19, 2009.

But on the morning of December 22, 2008, Monica and Katie Lynn brought in “an early Christmas present” to me in my home office. I proceed to open it and discover a pregnancy test.. a positive pregnancy test.

Wait.. huh?

How did this happen? I knew how it happened, but the shock was overwhelming. We had conceived naturally.

So, was this a planned pregnancy? Yes and No. We were planning on having another baby, but it didn’t happen how we thought it would.

But then again.. what has?

It’s always fun to tell family news like this; naturally we had to get it on video!

We’ll be posting regular updates here throughout Monica’s pregnancy. We ask that you keep us in your prayers and pray that our little Peanut is healthy.

You *are* blessed my friend, and I am very happy for you :) . You have a beautiful family, and Katie Lynn’s new little sibling is very lucky coming into the world in the arms of such loving and caring parents (and based on those little video clips alone, loving and caring extended family as well haha). Hopefully this wont interrupt our big summer plans to go see the Mets play (and beat) the Cubs in Chicago this year… but if it does, I’ll understand ;) .
